Closing Open Positions in MT4 (Windows)

In MT4, you can perform market closings at any time during trading hours. The method of closing depends on whether one-click trading is enabled.

Methods of Closing with One-Click Trading Enabled

When one-click trading is enabled, you can close positions primarily in two ways:

・From the Terminal
・From the Chart

Closing from the Terminal Option 1

Click the '×' button on the right end of the position in the 'Trade' tab of the Terminal to close it.

Closing from the Terminal Option 2

Right-click on the position you want to close in the 'Trade' tab of the Terminal and select 'Close Order' to close it.

Closing from the Chart

Right-click on the line representing the position or closing order on the chart, and select 'Close' from the menu that appears.

Methods of Closing Without One-Click Trading Enabled

If one-click trading is not enabled, closings are done through the Order Placement Window. You can display the Order Placement Window primarily in two ways:

・From the Terminal
・From the Chart

Displaying from the Terminal Option 1

Click the '×' button on the right end of the position in the 'Trade' tab of the Terminal.

Displaying from the Terminal Option 2

Right-click on the position you want to close in the 'Trade' tab of the Terminal and select 'Close Order'.

Displaying from the Chart

Right-click on the line representing the position or closing order on the chart and select 'Close' from the menu that appears.

Closing in the Order Placement Window

Click the yellow market close button in the displayed Order Placement Window to complete the closure.

Methods for Partially Closing Open Positions in MT4

In MT4, you can also partially close open positions. This is mainly done from the Terminal.

Double-click on the position you want to partially close in the 'Trade' tab of the Terminal.

Change the quantity in the displayed Position Window to the lot size you wish to close, and tap the yellow market close button to execute the partial closure.
